It’s easy to get caught up in the hectic pace of the holiday season. We host parties. We worry about having too many plans – or that we don’t have any plans at all. We wonder who we will see during the holidays – will far away family come home this year? We think of ways we can make our festivities better or more nostalgic. We look for the perfect present, or we procrastinate and end up trying to find any present.

The Challenge
The prophets called on the name of Baal from morning till noon. “Baal answer us!” they shouted, but there was no response; no one answered. And they danced around the altar they had made.
At noon Elijah began to taunt them. “Shout louder!” he said. “Surely he is a god! Perhaps he is in deep thought, or busy, or traveling. Maybe he is sleeping and must be awakened.” So they shouted louder and slashed themselves with swords and spears, as was their custom, until their blood flowed.
