God is Our Fortress

I had prayed for God’s Word to me, as usual, before posting my Monday morning weekly blogs. My goal is, as always, that my blogs would, first and foremost, bring honor to Jesus. Secondly, that my blogs would give its reader encouragement, inspiration, and hope for whatever season they may be in.

This was my prayer: “Heavenly Father, I desire to be the pen in your hand that the ink of Your word would flow freely through my pen and onto paper, revealing Your heart, Your word, and Your will for those who read my blogs, books and Bible studies that they would be encouraged. I ask this in Jesus’ matchless name from a grateful heart.”

I like to have my blogs complete and ready to post before Saturday, but as of Saturday night this week, I had nothing. Nada. Zippo.

Sunday morning, I had been invited by my grandson Michael and his wife Tonicia to the dedication of their sweet little Emma at Vertical Church in Saint Paul. The service was filled with young people who have immense joy and lots of energy. One of the songs they sang gave praise to the God who says, “Be still, and know that I am God.” Then the pastor spoke on Psalm 46.

The Lord may as well have been sitting next to me, saying, “This is for your blog.”

It was one of those moments when a person just knows. Yet, I am always amazed at His faithfulness and His timing. So here are the words of the Lord for this week’s blog. Psalm 46.

God is Our Refuge and Strength

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though
the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its
waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling.

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy
habitation of the Most High. God is in the midst of her; she shall
not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns. The nations
rage, the kingdoms totter; He utters his voice, the earth melts. The
LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Come, behold the works of the LORD, how He has brought desolations
on the earth. He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; He breaks
the bow and shatters the spear; He burns the chariots with fire.

“Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!”

The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

What a delight to know and to experience God’s great love for His people! You are His people, and the LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress!
