The Bullet and the Nail

A Tribute for a Bullet and a Nail

The bullet was swift and deadly –

Silencing the voice of our beloved Charlie.

His voice is no longer heard

As he had so often proclaimed God’s holy Word.

He died for You, Jesus, and for Your glory

But that is far from the end of the whole story.

You see it is a story of You, Lord

How You bled and died for the sins of the world.

A slow and agonizing death by nail it had to be

And we see that You bled and died for man’s glory.

O there were those who laughed and jeered

And it’s into our memories their heartless taunts were seared.

And so it was with the enemy in Charlie’s crowd –

Cruel taunts and jeers that rang out loud

As the Lord and Savior died for you and me,

Charlie served the King and saw His majesty.

Charlie’s ministry to the young at heart

Proclaimed his love for Jesus right from the start.

He had no fear – to make him run and hide

For You were near – right there by his side.

Thousands of angels were all around

To escort Charlie for surely, he was heaven-bound.

And so we think of You, Lord,

And the price one paid to proclaim Your Word.

Give us all courage and strength to carry on –

To proclaim Your message, “It is done!”

The price paid for sin and salvation had been won!

Charlie ran the race – He will hear, “Well done, my son.”

May those words some day be said to us as well –

For God’s story and Charlie’s story we will always tell.

Man gave God the glory that day;

Jesus gave man His glory but in a different way.

I write this tribute with utmost love and respect for Charlie

And with the highest praise to the Lord God Almighty.
