I like the perspective of this unknown author as she looks at the world around her, so I thought I would share it with you.
Today, while riding a bus, I saw a very beautiful woman and wished I were as beautiful as she. When she rose to leave, I saw her hobble down the aisle. She had one leg and used crutches. As she passed by, she gave me a smile. O Lord God, forgive me when I whine. I have two legs; the world is mine.
I stoped to buy some candy. The lad who sold it had such charm. I talked with him – he seemled so glad. If I were late, it’d do no harm. As I left, he said to me, “I thank you – you’ve been so kind. It’s nice to talk with folks like you. You see,” he said, “I’m blind.” O Lord God, forgive me when I whine. I have two eyes; the world is mine.
Later while walking down the street, I saw a child I knew. He stood and watched the others play, but he did not know what to do. I stopped a moment, and then I said, “Why don’t you join them, dear?” He looked ahead without a word. I forgot, he could not hear. O Lord God, forgive me when I whine. I have two ears; the world is mine.
That night, I stopped at the nursing home. My mother waved a frail hand – one tender hug was all she did seek. I greeted her with a smile and a hug, then then she cried. I knew the reason was becasue she could not speak. She could not say the words she felt in her heart, and I knew those words she wanted to impart. O Lord God, forgive me when I whine. I have a voice; the world is mine.
With legs to take me where I’d go; with eyes to see the sunset’s glow; with ears to hear what I’d know; with a voice to say I love you so. O Lord God, forgive me when I whine. I’ve been blessed indeed; the world is mine.
It is good to look at life in the world around us from a different perspective every now and then, and to be grateful for the gifts we have been given. And to remember when blessed by God, each of us can say, “Thank You, Lord God, the world is mine. With whom can I share it?”
