The World is Mine

This unknown author sees her blessings as she looks at the world around her, and how she reacts.  She writes:

“Today, while riding a bus, I saw a very beautiful woman and wished I were as lovely.  When suddenly she rose to leave, I saw her hobble down the aisle.  She had one leg and used a crutch.  But as she passed, she gave a smile to me.  Oh, God, forgive me when I whine.  I have been blessed; the world is mine.

dthee world with the words the worls is mine

I stopped to buy some candy.  The lad who sold it had such charm.  I talked with him  a bit; he seemed so glad.  As I left, he said to me, “Thank you – you’ve been so kind.  It’s nice to talk with folks like you.  You see,” he said, “I’m blind.”  Oh, God, forgive me when I whine.  I have been blessed; the world is mine.

Later while walking down the street, I saw a child I knew.  He stood and watched the others play, but he did not know what to do.  I stopped a moment, and then I said, “Why don’t you join them, dear?”  He looked ahead without a word.  I forgot, he could not hear.  Oh, God, forgive me when I whine.  I have been blessed; the world is mine.

That night, I stopped at the nursing home.  My mother waved a frail hand – one tender hug was all she did seek.  I greeted her with a smile and a hug, but then she cried.  I knew the reason was because she could not speak.  She could not say the words she felt in her heart, and I knew those words she wanted to impart.  Oh, God, forgive me when I whine.  I’ve been blessed indeed;  the world is mine.”

It is good to look at the world around us from a different perspective  every now and then, and be grateful for the gifts we have been given.  We are coming upon the Christmas season when gift-giving is on everyone’s mind.  But, sometimes gifts do not come tied with a bow.  Sometimes they must come from the heart – it is the love others want to know.  I realized it’s not the world that is mine, but it’s  the love of the Savior that does shine.” Even those who are crippled or blind or deaf or cannot speak – they too, are blessed by God, but their blessing is of a different kind.  So, everyone can give the gift of love because God in Jesus freely gives us His everlasting love.
