Over the Edge

Over the EdgeMany people think America has gone too far over the edge to ever again be one nation under God with liberty and justice for all.  And it might very well be.  No human president, male or female, will be able to right-side up America into a great nation again.  It will take divine intervention.

We hear public speakers close their speeches with, “And God bless America.”  Bless us in our deplorable state?  Does it not strike a cord in your heart to think of asking God to b.less American when, as a nation, we spurn the Lord on every side; cast Him out of public places; reject His name from being spoken in prayer at sporting events; make laws that legalize the killing of the innocent and helpless; justify an ordinance that defies God’s explicit directive regarding marriage; or turn to crime, violence, greed and racism from selfish motives?

If we truly want God to bless America, we must ask, “What does it take for God to bless a nation?”  Although the Old Testament verse found in 2 Chronicles 7:14 was intended for God’s chosen people, Israel, we can apply its principle to us.  “If My people, who are called y My name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, THEN I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and will heal their land. ”  We’ve seen from Scripture how rebellious nation after rebellious nation has fallen under judgment and is no long a super power.

God tells us plainly His  requirements for blessing a nation.  *Humble ourselves.  * Pray.  *Seek the Lord.  *Turn from our wicked ways.  THEN…

Past history clearly details the results of any nation who in rebellion turns its back on God.  When His patience runs out, and His wrath against sin burns hot, that nation will fall!  Judgment against sin is imminent.  That nation is over the edge.

But God, being rich in mercy, is slow to anger – not wanting any to perish.  He loved the people of the whole world so much that He gave His only son, Jesus Christ, to die in our place for our sins that whoever truly believes in the Son of God will not perish, but have everlasting life.  John 3:16

If an individual, or an entire nation humbles themselves (lose the attitude), prays (sincerely asking God), seeks the Lord (not to shut Him out), and turns away from their sin (call it what it is and turn away from it), God will forgive even the most deplorable sin because His grace is greater than our sin.

It’s a big IF ~

The outcome hinges on our response: IF we turn to God, we will be spared judgment, or IF we turn away from God, we will reap judgment.

We know God’s requirements to receive His blessings.  If America is over the edge, and God’s wrath is poured out in judgment, or if America will repent and be spared judgment, remains to be seen.
