Our two adopted grandchildren were orphans from Ukraine. When I had received this letter from their orphanage, I thought this is too good not to share, so I am turning the pen over to Good Shepherd Shelter, and let them speak to you from their heart.
Miracles that Amaze ~
“Blessed is he who considers the poor; The LORD will deliver him in time of trouble. The LORD will preserve him and keep him alive, and he will be blessed on the earth.” Psalm 41:1-2
“When a child grows up, it becomes much harder to be amazed by things. Yes, serious adults may use such phrases as ‘It’s not surprising,’ or ‘Been there. Done that.’ Each new day for an adult becomes just an average day; each new trip is like a previous trip. Adults will sit on a plane and not be amazed that they are going to fly almost like birds. They look at the most beautiful sunset in their life and don’t feel elated to see!”
“My best teachers for amazement and miracles were and are 50 children who now live in Our Home. We have Pavel who diligently rushes into my office with words of delight, ‘Can you imagine…?’ And when one of our twins, little Anna, starts laughing, it seems that the whole world smiles. I am so amazed at our kids, and this gives me much joy and helps me to enjoy life, even when the days seem mundane with routine or hectic with activity.
Amaze and be Amazed! It makes life good!

“On February 23, our country celebrates the Day of Homeland Defense. The local police organized an exhibition and competition devoted to this day. The children of our town were asked to draw pictures and do crafts. Our children also took part in this competition devoted to this day. The children of our town were asked to draw pictures and do crafts. Our children clapped their hands with glee to be able to participate.”
“Anastasia, 10 years old, took third place. Anastasia, with the assistance of her tutor, Yuliya, made a picture of an epic hero with salty dough. Her picture was called ‘The Defender.’ We were invited to visit the police station to receive a prize. It was very pleasant to visit the police station for this good reason. Anastasia received a diploma and a watch. All the other participants of the competition received paddles and balls for ping pong.”
“Ukraine may be small on the map, but not in our hearts.”
