Sally skipped along the sidewalk one summer day almost giddy with joyl She wiggled her fingers of her left hand in the sunlight, and let herelf be mesmerized at the dazzling sparkle of her diamond ring.
A man and his puppy dog came toward her. The little black and white ShihtTzu wagged his way to Sally tugging his master with him.
“What a cutie!” Sally said. “May I pet him?” “Yes, of course,” the man replied. Sally stooped down roughing the little dog behind his ears. “What’s his name?” she asked. “Askhim,” he answered. Sally stopped playing with the dog. “What is his name?” she asked, not sure if she heard correctly. “Askhim,” he repeated. She stood up. “I would hardly expect your dog to tell me his name.”
The man shrugged. “You asked, and I told you. C’mon, Askhim, let’s go.” “Is your dog really named Ask Him?” But the man and his dog kept walking.
There’s a Bible verse (John 14:14) where Jesus says, “Whatever you ask in My name, that I will do.” So, if someone were to ask you, “How do I know how I’m supposed to pray?” and you were to reply, “Ask Him,” would that person know to pray in Jesus‘ name? I’ve learned that when I talk to someone about Jesus, I must always be clear my listner knows exactly who I am talking about.
Speaking of Sumer ~
With summer bypassing spring, are you making plans for travel yet? No doubt, close to home with gas prices what they are, right? However, even on close-to-home trips, you will encounter road signs that warn or show directions. Here’s a challenge ~ for every road sign you see along the way, connect its warning to a Bible verse. Each time you see the sign (visual cue), say the verse.
For example: the YIELD sign ~ a verse that would go with that is James 4:7 ~ “Submit (YIELD) to God; Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
Every time you see a YIELD sign, recite James 4:7 or whichever verse you choose associated with the YIELD sign.
Another example is: the “No U-Turn sign. A Bible passage is Genesis 19:17, 26 describes the scene when an angel warns Lot, his wife, and their two daughters to flee so they could escape the coming judgment of God against the sins of the people of Sodom and Gomorah. “Escape for your life! Do not look back (no u-turn)…But his wife turned and looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.”
So every time you see a “No U-turn” sign, think about the consequences of disobeying God’s warning regarding turning back to the old sinful way of life and reaping the consequences.
Last example and then the challenge is yours to match Scripture with road signs that warn, give directions, or give information: the “REST AREA” sign. Mark 6:31 is a good verse for this one. Jesus said to His disciples, “Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” Jesus invites us to come away with Him and rest, to be refreshed.
A variation of this ‘travel game,’ is to say a verse, and see who can be the first one to guess the corresponding road sign. Have fun!
